About this program
The MPhil/PhD in Accounting and Finance at Greenwich is a research degree rather than taught coursework. Instead of attending regular lectures, you work under the guidance of a supervisor (or supervisory team) to design and carry out a substantial, original research project in a particular area of accounting or finance. Typical research areas include corporate finance, banking, financial accounting and reporting, market performance, regulatory and governance issues, fintech/ESG/disclosure, non-profit and public-sector finance, among others. During your first year (or early stage), you may undertake training modules in research methods (quantitative and/or qualitative), data collection and analysis to equip you for your thesis work. As the program progresses, most of your time will go into independent research, reading literature, collecting data, analysis, and writing the thesis. The degree is offered full-time (typically 3–4 years) or part-time (4–7 years), giving flexibility depending on your commitments.
