About the university
Shanghai University of Technology originates from Hujiang University founded in 1906 and German Medical Engineering School founded in 1907. In the early 1950s, Hujiang University and the National Shanghai Higher Vocational School of Machinery were transformed into Shanghai Machinery College (renamed East China University of Technology in 1994) and Shanghai Machinery College respectively. In 1996, the two universities merged to form Shanghai University of Technology; In 1998, the school was transferred from the Ministry of Machinery Industry to Shanghai. Shanghai University of Technology is an application-oriented and research-oriented university focusing on engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, art and other disciplines. It is a university jointly built by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government.
