Harbin Engineering University was formerly the Military Engineering College of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, which was founded in 1953. It is commonly known as "Harbin Military Industry". In 1994, it was renamed Harbin Engineering University; In 1996, it entered the ranks of the first batch of "211 Project" key universities; In 2011, it became a university building the national "985 Project" superior discipline innovation platform project; In 2017, it entered the ranks of national "double first-class" construction. The university is now subordinate to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and is an important talent training and scientific research base in China's shipbuilding industry, naval equipment, marine development, and nuclear energy application ("three seas and one nuclear").
