The predecessor of Hefei University of Technology is the Bengbu Senior Industrial Vocational School established in 1945 in Anhui Province, which has gone through the development stages of Anhui Provincial Industrial College, Hefei Institute of Mining and Technology, etc; In 1958, it was renamed Hefei University of Technology; In 1969, Anhui Institute of Water Resources and Electric Power and Anhui Institute of Technology were merged. Later, the Department of Agricultural Machinery and other units were separated and established as Anhui Agricultural Machinery College, which was renamed Anhui Institute of Technology in 1979. In 1997, the former Hefei University of Technology merged with Anhui Institute of Technology to form a new Hefei University of Technology. Hefei University of Technology, subordinate to the Ministry of Education, is a national key university jointly built by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the People's Government of Anhui Province.
