China University of Geosciences (CUG), located in Wuhan near East Lake and the foot of the southern mountains, traces its origins to the Beijing Institute of Geosciences, founded in 1952 by merging the geological departments of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Tianjin University, Tangshan Railway University, and other institutions. In 1987, the National Education Commission approved its establishment as China University of Geosciences. CUG is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, a Project 211 university, and a Double First-Class construction university, with a strong focus on earth sciences while also covering science, engineering, literature, management, economics, law, education, and art. Its two first-class disciplines, Geology and Geological Resources and Geological Engineering, are recognized as Double First-Class disciplines. The university has 11 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 310 doctoral supervisors, 520 professors, and 927 associate professors. It comprises 23 colleges and institutes, offers 65 undergraduate majors, 16 first-level doctoral programs, 34 first-level master programs, and 15 post-doctoral research stations. CUG hosts 86 research institutions and laboratories, including two national key laboratories, and has consistently ranked its first-level disciplines at the top in national evaluations. Over the past five years, the graduate employment rate has exceeded 96%, the postgraduate guarantee rate over 19%, and more than 45% of graduates pursue further study abroad.
