About

Shanghai Ocean University is a multi-disciplinary applied research university, which is jointly built by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the State Oceanic Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Its predecessor was the Jiangsu Provincial Fisheries School founded by Zhang Jian and Huang Yanpei in 1912. In 1952, it was upgraded to Shanghai Fisheries University, the first undergraduate fisheries university in China. In 1972, he moved to Jimei in Xiamen and returned to Shanghai in 1979. It was renamed Shanghai Fisheries University in 1985 and Shanghai Ocean University in 2008. In September 2017, the university was selected as a national world-class discipline construction university. The school now has two campuses, namely, the Hucheng Ring Road Campus in Pudong New Area and the Jungong Road Campus in Yangpu District, of which the main campus, the Hucheng Ring Road Campus, covers an area of about 1600 mu, as well as 386 mu of Binhai Base and 56.7 mu of Xiangshan Science and Education Base. China Ocean Fisheries Data Center and Marine Science Supercomputing Center have been established.

Why choose this university?
1. Strong focus on marine and ocean-related studies, including biology and environmental science.
2. Large student body, with nearly 12,000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 5,000 full-time registered postgraduate students.
